Create different houses and buildings on Mango Street as you discover the community and characters that surround Esperanza in the course of reading the vignettes.
Replicate the Mango Street neighborhood on classroom walls. An ideal way to proceed is to solicit the help and cooperation of an art teacher. Also, the cooperation of maintenance crew may be desirable since this can complicate their jobs.
My students have done this with butcher sheets (large sheets
of white paper from rolls) in panels which are then taped to classroom
walls. This requires that groups of students cooperate and plan the
intersection of their respective parts of the panorama, and that one medium
(watercolor, crayons, markers, etc.) be used so that sections can be put
together as one unified work.
