A Rainy Night

The metallic sound

Of the rain falling

As it escapes the clouds

Haunts the rooftop now

The night listens knowing

With every move it waits

As the sun has been shed

And the rain still comes

I lay drowning

While the rainwater trickles in

My heart wary of floating

Away on its own journey

There's a bridge building

That I want to cross

There's a feeling swimming under my feet

Leaving me at a loss

This rainy night will always be

The night's tears that cry for me

I know there's no guarantee

What will become of you and me

But I'll still have the memory

Even after the rain

The rain cries for release

From the burden of its conscience

In this darkness it seems

Dreams have a mind of their own

The night in exchange for words

Crawls into the doorway

Touching us at its periphery

Moving within each heartbeat

I lay thinking

While the night remembers this

Words have no need to be spoken

With only touch left to answer

There's a bridge building

That I want to cross

There's a feeling swimming leaving me at a loss

This rainy night will always

The night's tears that cry for me

I know there's no guarantee

What will become of you and me

But I'll still have the memory

Even after the rain.
