DRAGON

Chase the dragon
Feel him breathing through the nostrils of Asia
Moving darkly within the hearts of men
His fire in their lungs
Burning through the dynasties
Ebony eyes know
The power of the dragon
The dragon grants no release- yet total escape
His will climbs up the mountains and swims the waters
His tail stings the souls of men
Who have sold them long ago
Promising only another wall to build and nowhere else to go
Hide within the dragon
See him writhing in the eyes of Asia
Casting a dark shadow on the light of men
His eyes their sight
From holes to steel skeletons in the sky
Ebony eyes know
The will of the dragon
He walks the desolate roads and rides the city's avenues
His tail stings the souls of men
Who have sold them long ago
Promising only another wall to build and nowhere else to go.

This poem is about opium.  (Not that I have ever tried it, but I have read about it in novels, and this is my interpretation of how opium is. A slang term for smoking opium is "riding the dragon.")
